9/10: Taking a look at the textbook with a scavenger hunt.
9/11: Looked at Expert Space. You can find the link to Expert Space on my Lang Arts homepage OR you can access the link on TECH homepage under "Useful Links," click on Scholastic Resources. You need to click on Expert 21 and it will bring you to Expert Space. Use your login information. Did vocabulary and journal.
9/12: Started Playing the game with some journal responses

9/14: Friday reading! The class is reading the novel When A Hero Dies.
9/17: Finished Playing the Game. Had journal responses and summary. Powerpoint of how to write a sports article. Students will create a sports article using the story just read. Students will need to use 3 vocabulary words, 1 picture, and 150-300 words. Students were explained how to Write a headline, lead paragraphs and information paragraph. Article is DUE: WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 26.
9/18: Ms Lundebrek had a sub today and students were to use their textbook of reading to fill in their sports article guide.
9/19: Ms. Lundebrek had a sub today and students were to use examples given to find information in book.
9/20: Students were in computer lab typing up sports article.
9/21: Friday reading! We continued to read When A Hero Dies and do worksheet for each chapter.
OCTOBER
10/8: Learned what text structure is and what it looks like.
10/9: Have new vocabulary words for second reading and went through what a profile reading was. Started Reading "Finding their Way"
10/10: Finished "Finding their Way" and journal responded- 1. Pick one of the four profile and make an alternative ending.
10/11: What does a friendly letter look like? We will write a friendly letter to a friend persuading them to consider college.
10/12: Fun Friday Reading :) We are starting chapter four in the novel When A Hero Dies. Getting new vocabulary words AND study packet.
10/22: Starting to write paragraphs. What is a paragraph and what does a "good" paragraph look like. Students wrote a aragraph pretest. Getting ready for the MCA writing make-up tests for those who need to pass.
10/23: Topic sentences - 3 types
10/24: Read "Three Skeleton Key" with substitute teacher
10/25: Finished "Three Skeleton Key" and filled out SKILLS sheet and worked on writing assignment.
10/26: Fun Friday Reading. "When a Hero Dies" chapter 4.
10/29: Paragraph Writing: Topic Sentences. We learned 3 types of topic sentences and did Lesson 1
10/30: There was a sub today. Class read "The Marble Champ" and completed a SKILLS sheet to assess reading comprehension.
10/31: Happy Halloween! Class went over Lesson 1 and started Lesson 2 in topic sentences.
11/01: Class worked on mastery of lesson 2 and started lesson 3. Mastery is 80% or higher for topic sentences.
11/02: Fun Friday Reading Day. Class continued reading "When A Hero Dies" chapter 5.
NOVEMBER
11/05: Last day of topic sentences. Students needed to master lessons 1-3 in order to move on.
11/06: Started with Detail Sentences. Each detail sentences needs 1. Lead off sentence 2. Follow up sentence.
11/07: Those who needed to take the MCA writing test did so this morning. The rest of the class worked on mastery of topic sentences if needed.
11/08: Detail sentences, point of view, tense, and transitions.
11/09: Friday Fun Reading Day. Class read silently to Chapter 6 and filled out packet. We went over Chapter 4-6 packet in class. Quiz on Chapter 4-6 on Monday.
